  • Galanado
Following the street that begins from Chora, which cuts across the mountainous part of the island, and after we pass by the verdant reed-bed valley, we reach Galanado. At the northwest side of the village we meet the Belonia Venetian castle and the church of St. John, which was used by both the Orthodox and the Catholics.
  • Chalki
Continuing on our tour at about 16km. from Chora, we reach Chalki, which was the capital of the island in the past. Chalki is known for its beautiful old mansions and many Byzantine churches. Here we are going to visit the old, traditional citrus distillery. Then we will go to Panagia Drociani (6th century AD), near the village Moni, which is the best preserved monument from the Early Christian period.
  • Filoti
The next village that we meet is Filoti, which is at the center of the island, with the cathedral of the Virgin Mary.
  • Apiranthos
From there we follow a mountainous winding road and we go up an altitude of 600m. to find Apiranthos, known as the "marble village". Apiranthos has three museums (archeological, geological and folklore). Here we will stop for one hour.
  • Koronos
Continuing on we meet Koronos with the emery mines and finally at an attitude of 700m. we meet Komiaki (Koronida).
  • Apollon
From here the road leads you down to the green clad valley of Apollona, the idealic seaside settlement, on the northeast side of the island, with the giant male statue (Kouros) 10,5m., which belongs to the 17th century BC. Here we will stop and rest.
  • Return
To Chora we will return by taking the brand-new seaside road, which is parallel to the northwest coast of the island. On our way back we will meet the half deserted village of Agia and the monastery of Faneromeni (17th century), with rare icons and a rich library.
